Civil structure and infrastructure systems play a pivotal role in a nation’s economy, prosperity, health, environment, social well-being and quality of life. It is thus imperative and of strategic priority to consolidate and advance criteria, methods, and technical tools to design, construct, manage and protect structure and infrastructure systems under uncertainty with a view to securing their safety, serviceability, functionality, robustness, and resilience in their whole life.

In this context, civil engineering is undergoing a profound change toward a life-cycle-oriented design philosophy to fulfill the continuously increasing demand from economic, environmental, social, and political needs, and to incorporate emerging environmental issues, such as carbon emissions of structure and infrastructure systems and their effects on global warming and climate change. Efforts are also needed to bridge the gap between theory and practice and foster the incorporation of life-cycle concepts in structural design codes, standards, and specifications. For this purpose, research and applications are promoted within the International Association for Life-Cycle Civil Engineering (IALCCE).

On behalf of IALCCE, we are pleased to announce the Ninth International Symposium on Life-Cycle Civil Engineering (IALCCE 2025) which will be held in Melbourne, Australia, 15 – 19 July 2025, under the auspices of RMIT University in partnership with Melbourne Convention Bureau and ASN Events.

IALCCE Symposium series has become well established events in the field of Life-Cycle Civil Engineering and related topics. The previous eight symposia of the series have been organised in Varenna (IALCCE 2008), Taipei (IALCCE 2010), Vienna (IALCCE 2012), Tokyo (IALCCE 2014), Delft (IALCCE 2016), Ghent (IALCCE 2018), Shanghai (IALCCE 2020) and Milan (IALCCE 2023). The success of these events, both technically and academically, has generated lasting impact on civil engineering profession and beyond.

On behalf of the organising committee of IALCCE2025, we like to extend our warmest welcome to you all to attend this and yet another exiting IALCCE2025 in Melbourne in July 2025.
